Joe Eckardt, founder of Unbreakable Post Inc. was kind enough to answer a few questions for Indy Reviews. So let’s dive in!

Could you give my readers an introduction to Unbreakable Post Ink? Tell me about who you are, what you do, and how you do it?

JE: Unbreakable Post is Hollywood’s go-to post-production finishing house. We are the top-of-the-line, no-nonsense post house.  We aim to take the frustration out of post finishing.  We work on films, television, and comedy series.  We provide color grading, audio mx, VFX, offline editorial rentals and network delivery.

Sounds like exciting stuff! Could you talk a little about post and pre-production in general?

JE: Ever heard of the saying, “Fix it in post”? Well, I hate that saying.  Proper pre-production will always mitigate any “fixing it in post.”  A lot of productions tend to speed through pre-production or they don’t have the proper staff on hand to anticipate the issues they will face in production and post-production.  All of us at Unbreakable Post will provide a full personalized technical workflow designed in pre-production.  We find that these specialized workflows tend to remove the majority, if not all, of the fix it post issues that may come up.

Let’s talk a little about the journey that led you to founding a post-production company. What inspired you, how did you make your dream a reality?

JE: I’ve been in post-production since 2002. Over the years I have been involved in countless productions, all of which I have been able to always learn something new, either good or a bad takeaway.  Over the years, I have put all of what I learned into practice on the next shows that I work on.  About 5 years ago there were a few shows that I was working on as Post Supervisor where the producers weren’t working with postproduction facilities that took the quality of their work very seriously.  As a result, I ended up taking the shows away from those facilities and handled the finishing process with my team.  For many years, my wife has always been pushing me to open my own facility, and for once I listened. I was tired of working at facilities that overbook themselves and are essentially just a conveyor belt of employees that are not experienced enough to get the job done. I thought, I must not be the only person that feels this way.  So here we are, Unbreakable Post, taking the frustration out of post-production so our clients can simply focus on the their content.

What would you say is the ethos of Unbreakable Post Inc? Are there certain standards you strive to maintain, or perhaps a philosophy you operate by?

JE: With over 20+ years of experience working in post-production in the film and television industry, along with our team with just as much, if not even more experience, we strive to bring integrity back to post-production.  We hold each project with white gloves, no matter the budget.

What are some of your personal professional highlights?

JE: I always think about my days starting out as a production assistant in New York City and think about how far I’ve come to now owning my own post-production facility in Hollywood.

Do you have a favourite project you’ve worked on?

JE: I honestly don’t have a favourite project that I have work on.  But I would say that Selling Sunset for Netflix, and the comedy specials for David Spade and Jeff Foxworthy both also for Netflix do standout for me.

What are some goals you’re hoping to work towards in the coming months?

JE: We’re looking to continue expanding as much as we have been over the last few years, but more importantly, we want to meet and work with new clients and expand our network.

Finally, do you have any advice for those wishing to follow in your footsteps and work in a field like yours?

JE: The TV and film industry is incredibly large, there are so many things you can do in this industry, I would suggest trying out as many of them as you can until you find that special spot where you can see yourself working countless hours per day.  This really is a great industry to work in, we’re lucky to have this opportunity.

Thanks to Joe for giving us an insight into the world of post-production, and the work he is doing with Unbreakable Post to make it a more streamline, high-quality industry.
